I Am Foot

I am an assassin.
My life spent in service and training.
Silently I strike, only to fade into the night.
Not a moment's hesitation precedes the kill,
Though it generates no pleasure.
Our late Master made regular enemies
Of a particular four.
But only now, that they are no longer foes,
Do I realise how familiar with them I truly am.
Some of my Clan brethren still can hardly tell them apart.
"Just one of four targets," they'd always say,
But I know them all too well.
There is the warrior of spirit;
He who is the key to their unity.
There is the warrior of agility;
He who moves like lightning, whose tongue is ever quicker.
There is the warrior of balance;
He who is prepared for when he is needed.
And there is the warrior of courage;
He who strikes hard, who dares not show weakness.
I am lucky to have survived my every encounter with these shadow warriors,
But they have left their mark.
Were they my enemies still, my respect they ever have.
I am ninja.
I am Foot.



((Okay, so this isn't exactly a story - more a poetic memoir of a Foot ninja who, in retrospect of their truce, thinks fondly of the Turtles and verbally pays his respects. I had difficulty getting to sleep, last night, and this is the brain vomit that proceeded.))

Wow, a drabble from a normal Foot's POV. I love seeing the view of a usually silent character and you capture it well. <3 He doesn't know their names (well, in the 2k3 series Shredder only seemed to know Leo's :/) but I love how you summarize each character perfectly.

Thanks so much. I called it "brain vomit," because it wasn't planned at all. I just thought of the phrase "I am Foot," then imagined a Clan member keeping a journal scroll, which I thought was a cool image. I've been wanting to (as in still want to) write a TMNT story revolving around a basic Foot ninja, and this seems like a fitting preamble, anyway. The reason why I didn't name the Turtles is because I wanted it to be ambiguous. Any Turtles fan can figure out which is which, but I like to keep others guessing. This Foot probably does know their names, but that would take away some of its poetic quality to explicitly name them. Also, if it's discernible, I'm going off of the Turtles all wearing red bandannas, so that would make them harder to tell apart, even though I am sure to draw them with distinctive faces. I wanted to write it so that someone who knows nothing about the Turtles would read this and have virtually no idea I'm referring to them, except maybe by the end (but I'm sure there are some people who would read to the end and ask, "What do you mean, he's a foot?")

That's hard to come up with. I figure that most of the Foot are clansmen by blood, as that's how most historic ninja clans were formed. The Foot is probably made up of several allied families, so more than likely, he was born into it, essentially bred for combat. The real question is how and why the Foot initially formed. That's never explained, outside of the 2003 cartoon, and even then, it seemed like the Clan was already somewhat formed, by the time Ch'rell came along.

Keep at it, Cat. The only way to get better at writing is to write, and I don't necessarily mean writing literally. Perhaps "creating" is a better word, because many of my stories I tell orally, as I tend to be lazy with the actual writing process. The point is, you're not too shabby, from what I've seen; just let the words flow from your head, but keep them filtered through what diction sounds best for the overall tone, and make sure not to do anything someone else has done, and I guarantee that you won't even notice your advance, until you've far surpassed your own expectations. I will admit that I have a strange and unique brain, but then, don't we all?

Well, that's why I hypothesize it to be made up of a group of families. I'd doubt that they're all related.
